The dress, the weather, and ladies attire

I’ve “had” my dress since May 2018, but I’ve still never set foot in a bridal salon. I actually WON my dress from Allure Bridal by entering a contest (seriously one of those “enter your email to win” type of things). So many friends and family were incredulous–did you really win? Do you have the dress in hand? Probably it is a fake thing!

Listen, y’all, no African Prince reached out to me to tell me I won a wedding dress if only I would wire him $500 to cover shipping. I received the email from a real Allure email ID, and the dress arrived in early October, almost exactly a month after I had sent my measurements and placed the order.

Allure did all the measurement calculations for me so that the dress would be easy to alter. I’ve tried it on just once, and rest assured–it does exist 😀

But one thing I am concerned about is the weather on the day-of. Iceland is notoriously unpredictable. Even though our wedding is at the end of June, in the driest month of the year and on the cusp of the warmest one, I’m still worried about a damp, drizzly, chilly day.

Regardless of precipitation, it’s almost guaranteed to be cold. So, with that in mind, I’m already sourcing pretty jackets to wear while we’re out walking around. I’m also in the process of knitting an enormous shawl as a lighter weight cover up (that will look better in photos that a jacket).

I’m also not sold yet on what type of shoes to wear. Originally I was thinking to wear slides for the ceremony, and my hiking boots for the…hiking…portion of the day. But after looking through a lot of other couple’s Iceland wedding photos, I think I may be leaning more toward a fashion boot. And if I slip and fall to my death because I didn’t have traction? Well, at least I’ll go down in style :p

Love,

Danielle (and Peter)
