We drove from south Iceland, passing through Reykjavík, to Snaefellsnes to get to Hotel Budir. The drive was nearly the same as the trip to Stykkishólmur, and so was very familiar.

We had lunch in Reykjavik, and met up with our families so we could caravan to the hotel. They had not yet been out of the city, hadn’t seen sheep or horses, and I was excited for them.

I had booked hotel Budir back in August 2018 and had specifically requested rooms 23 and 17, as those seemed to be the best options for bringing a photography team in.
About 10 days before our arrival, we found out we lost room 17 to another guest who needed to add a cot to their room. Upon arrival, we found out we had also lost room 23 for some unknown to me reason. The view above is from room 10, which is where we ended up. Still, not too shabby 😉

I loved the sitting spaces inside the hotel, they were someone chic and sparse, but full of visual interest at the same time.

Peter and I went for a walk before dinner to scope out ceremony locations for the next day. A small path leading away from the black church brought us to this lava field hillock, full of flowers and sheep bleating in the distance. I was sold, sent the location to the photographers, and they agreed.
The weather forecast had changed again from 30% chance of rain to 60%, but we didn’t bother looking for an alternate ceremony location–this was it 🤷🏼♀️🙃
Love,
PD
