If we ever visit Vestmannaeyjar again, here’s how I would do it:
- Plan to spend a whole day, starting in the morning, and taking the 19:30 or 21:00 ferry back to the mainland. You will have no trouble parking at the ferry docking point on the mainland, and you cannot miss it (the road essentially dead ends at the dock).
- Book a tour (preferably water-based) of the puffins, that also includes the Elephant rock and maybe some caves/grottos
- Alternatively, bring a car onto the ferry.
- Rent a bike for in-town travel (with the knowledge that the man only appears during ferry arrivals to take payment).
- Eat more pizza. Seriously, we’re still talking about Pitsugerðin weeks later.
