On Monday evening, I had originally planned to do a welcome/rehearsal dinner at Hotel Budir for our group. But considering their very short stay in Iceland, I wanted them to see more of the countryside and get away from the hotel.
I had read that Grundarfjordur had some of the best views on the Snaefellsnes peninsula, and they also had one of the highest rated restaurants within a reasonable driving distance (under 40 minutes).
I emailed restaurant Bjargarsteinn about a month before our arrival, and then again maybe 2 weeks before. On the second email, they confirmed our reservation and we were all set. I do highly recommend making reservations, it was a full house the entire time we were there
The restaurant is right on the water’s edge, with direct views to Kirkjufell.

The menu was hand-written and drawn, then made into copies. It took some sorting out for us to understand: the trick is that the first item is the name of the dish, then everything else on the following lines are the accompaniments to that dish.

The vegetarian dish is what my dinner dreams are made of. It was, essentially, a dinner made up of everyone else’s side dishes 😍. So I got to sample all of the veggie options without having to say “no bacon, no fish,” etc.

For dessert, our second Hjonabandssaela wedded bliss cake of the trip.
Our group ended the evening with some sunset photos outside, a nightcap back at Hotel Budir, and were ready for the wedding the next morning.
Love,
PD
