A rainy wedding

Peter and I both had a late night writing vows. We had been talking about them for ages, but didn’t get a lot done ahead of time. I went through three drafts, and told him my overall structure for the vows, but otherwise the content of both sets was a surprise.

We laid out all our necessities the night before. Peter took a shower and then was out the door with all his stuff to get ready in another room.

The photographers and my mother met in my room to watch/help me get ready. We were running a bit tight on time (everyone let me know), but I didn’t feel rushed.

The photographers had previously picked a spot for our “first look,” but I didn’t know where it was, so Peter stood with them in the rain while they planned the shots. One had to run back to the hotel to get me and show me the path to take.

The only think Peter knew about my dress ahead of time was that it was big. And he may have known it was lacey because the dress bag is sort of sheer, otherwise it was a surprise.

The first look done with, we walked together to the spot we picked out the night before. Our family and officiant were waiting there for us, umbrellas and all.

Our officiant, Inga, read a very personalized introduction before asking Peter to start the vows. He pulled out his papers, said my name, and burst into tears (!!). It was great. And actually, his vows were very poetic and encompassing of our whole lives. My vows focused on retelling a story from a hike early on in our relationship, not nearly as moving, but at least I could get through them 😜

Inga asked us some “I do’s” and then…that’s it! We were wed.

Love,

PD
